“Ooh, make love to me, one more time before you go away.” And with just the first sentence, Rhye has already put a spell on us. The jazzy and soulful “The Fall” is the perfect late night soundtrack for seduction, especially with the silky Sade-like vocals that flow effortlessly like a hillside stream and seem to melt the minute they hit your ears. The track’s general tone, including the soft looping piano and subtle drum machine beats, remind me simultaneously … →
Here’s a behind the scenes look at the MTV nominated video, which we released earlier this year in conjunction with Bandish Projekt/Bheja Fry. Read all about the Nomination here: MTV EMA – BANDISH PROJEKT Please help him and us to win by voting here: VOTE HERE Mayur thoroughly deserves this, not only because he is [...]
Although this has just been released now in 2012, it is not too different to the kind of stuff I was playing over 6 years ago during my heady days of being one of a very few Western based DJ’s specializing in Arabian music. Reminds of stuff by a dude called Smadj (Duoud)who was doing [...]
After an exhausting week playing my recurring role as contrarian (due to my nature of simply questioning everything and thinking deeply while keeping an open mind for change) in the political community, I honestly must say it’s nice to wind up here composing a post about my favorite modern music. For me it is a [...]
This track goes so damn hard, you’re definitely about to be out of your mind. Clark Kent has been delivering some insane tunes lately, his most recent track remixing Max Vangeli & AN21′s track “Bombs Over Capitals” was absolutely insane. This time he takes on the Radio anthem from B.O.B. and Nicki Minaj titled “Out Of My Mind”. Not a huge Nicki fan but when you drop some filthy bass over her ridiculous lyrics, it turns out to be something rather amazing. B.O.B. goes just as hard on this tune … →
New Dillon Francis remix, who’s down? This time he remixes TAI‘s track “Beatdown” and brings his always funky Moombah swag. Starting with a grimey synth over some spliced vocals, then building into some classic filth that he is so well known for. Next is an incredible remix from L.A. Riots and they tackle TAI’s track “Paradise Poltergeist”. They start with a pretty generic Intro but then slap you in the face with an some infectious Electro that hits at all the right … →
London-born, Vienna-based musician S O H N shares “The Wheel,” a beautifully somber new song that’s flushed with lovely, cooing but pained vocals, staggering synth patterns, and a mellow ticking beat. “The Wheel” comes off an EP of the same name, due out November 5th on Aesop. Definitely an artist to watch.
Himuro had an awesome release on our label earlier this year, Glass Breaking EP, and he’s just contributed this amazing track to a free compilation called Out of dots. The track sounds like some Future Alice Coltrane/Cinematic Orchestra Chopped and Screwed Psychedelic Bass, totally awesome! Grab the whole compilation: Out of Dots
The sweet-sounding indie rock of Guards also incorporates a vintage ’60s pop element that might seem familiar, and that could be due to the fact that frontman Richie Follin is the brother of Madeline Follin of CULTS. There are certainly similarities between the two bands, but each is a different beast of its own. So, back to Guards. The three-piece released one of my favorite EPs in 2010 full of hearty gems like “Resolution of One” and “Crystal Truth”. Their … →
San Francisco-based Mikey Maramag, AKA Blackbird Blackbird, dubs his music “dreamy folktronica,” which oddly enough, is the perfect description. His latest single, “All,” is a slow-burning mesmerizer. His soft, soothing vocals accompanied by a faint, echoing guitar set a minimalistic tone from the start, reminiscent somewhat of The xx. But the beauty is in the details that Maramag sprinkles all across the track, especially towards the end when he really lets loose and gets creative: glimmering synths, tropical island vibes, … →
Indie dream pop rocker’s SNAKADAKTAL, coming off their debut self titled EP, get a groovy remix of their track Dance Bear at the hands of the talented, multi-instrumentalist/producer AMTRAC. A student of pop sonic dance, AMTRAC adapts the piece into a smooth rendition heavily weighted on clipped and ambient vocals. The sound is entirely re-envisioned and suited for an audience in search of a serene and fluid experience. Best for a drive along a large body of water amidst warm and calming colours. … →
